Andromeda Filters -- Series One

This is the last review of the Andromeda Filter Series. This is the first of three filter sets presented by Andromeda. While series two dealt with filters to create a 3D look and series three was based on screens for creating Mezzotints et al, this first series is comprised of ten filters. They are meant to simulate photographic filters.

These filters are very easy to install since they are to be copied directly into the appropriate plugin. They can be used with RGB, CMYK, and gray scale images.

The filters are: cMulti (circular multiple images), Designs, Diffract, Halo, Prism, Rainbow, Reflection, sMulti (straight multiple images), Star, and velocity.

The Designs filter has many functions and comes with a library of patterns. It can be used to create dimensional textures including those that are "3D like" and bend and twist. This filter, also contains "mezzo line screens" similar to those found in series three. This same filter can add unusual textures to either color or gray scale images.

The other filters are relatively self explanatory. Their interface is easy to use and all have a low resolution preview screen. The following three pictures show the use of a star filter, a star plus a diffraction filter, and the rainbow filter. I have used the same image for the purpose of showing how these filters change the "look" of the image.

These filters are more spectacular with color images. I added the star filter and diffraction filter to a cloud setting. One star filter was created in a light yellow and a smaller one in a peach tone. Then the diffraction filter was placed over both with its spokes's lined up with those of the star. Since the spokes of the diffraction filter mirrored a rainbow, the effect actually "made" the picture.

The cost of these filters is $79.00 and can be used with 3.x programs as well as with windows 95 programs. All these filters have multiple uses and work very well. Andromeda can be reached at 1-805-379-4109. Also, most catalog companies that feature graphic software have these filters listed for sale.
