From the April 2000 issue of the I/O Port Newsletter

Longtime TCS members may remember a Member Spotlight article on Ken Johnson in April 1997; Ken was the author of a very useful series of articles for the beginner which was reprinted in many different newsletters. Ken originally published his articles first in a Chicago User Group newsletter, but he had a disagreement with the other officers in his UG, and began looking for another UG Newsletter that would publish his articles. We were very proud to have him select the Tulsa Computer Society and its I/O Port Newsletter to continue to host his articles, which he continued for more than a year after his split with his home group.

We now have another remote member who will be publishing in our paper. Bee Reynolds had a disagreement with her Austin Texas UG, and has joined TCS to continue publishing her world famous product review articles. I don't believe it is appropriate for us to go into what disagreements she had with her former group, but I would like to say that I am aware of the situation, and support Bee completely in that matter, and was overjoyed that she decided to join TCS.

Bee has been married to the same guy for 28 yrs now, and they have two grown kids 26 and 25. The oldest is boy and engaged to be married, their daughter is expecting their first grandchild in July. In the attached picture her son, Sean, is standing behind his Dad, Rick, and daughter Christina, is standing behind Bee, in the white sweater...They have lived in Austin since 1984 and Bee has been in computers since 79. She has her own computer consulting home based business and have had for 7 yrs now. She also works at the local trauma hospital on weekends doing computer work for the Radiology dept.

She was a member of the CTPCUG for 7 yrs, and started as Editor in 94. She was also SIG leader for the Lotus AMi Pro which evolved into Lotus SmartSuite, and SIG leader for Desktop Publishing which she started and held in her home for 6 yrs. She was VP for two years from 95 to 97, and was also Software Review Officer for 5 yrs. There is not much she didn't do.

Her hobbies include scuba diving (she has traveled to many exotic places in the last 5 yrs), and she likes to bowl, knit, crochet, gourmet cook and garden. She is writing her own cookbook and designs web pages for individuals, not businesses. She teaches about 200 programs on a one-to-one basis and targets women in the older age groups 60 and up. She collects Disney items and Hummel as well as Windberg artwork and antiques.

She got started back in college on computers around 71' when she took a computer science test and failed it. The professor told her she was too dumb to ever learn or work on computers. She was 18 yrs. old at the time. She got her first computer in 79' after having taken mag card and Lanier certification for Word Processing, and was one of the first 400 women in Texas to be certified by Lanier back then.

In 79' she bought a Commodore Vic 20, expanded to a huge 32K and ran her own business in San Antonio, for two years on it (an ice cream parlor with 10 employees). She did word processor, database and spreadsheet all on that Vic. In 85; she moved up to a Commodore 128 and still expanded it to the max. In 1989 she got my first clone PC custom built and paid over $4000 for it.

She now builds, repairs, teaches and consults in the computer field. She upgrades her 4 computers every six months and makes sure she read everything she can on computers all the time.
