Refurbishing Computers

From the April 2000 issue of the I/O Port Newsletter

Jim Erwin returned from Belize and Bethesda Boys Ranch moved the Refurbishing Computers Project over to a house (one of the former dorms the boys stayed in) which is 2 miles west of our old location. We have a LOT of extra space at the new location, so we want to urge anyone that would like to learn how to work on computers, or who knows how and is willing to put in some time teaching others how to do it, and at the same time turning out machines that schools, churches, and non-profit agencies can use.

We also have a number of machines currently available, so if you know of a school, church, or non-profit agency that can use a machine, please let me know. Most of the units are either 386s or 486s, but there is still a lot of life left in those old machines.

We work on the 1st, 4th, and (if there is one) 5th Saturdays of each month, starting at 10am. Go south on Highway 75 to 171st Street, turn right, go 2.0 miles to 49th W Ave, turn left, go 0.3 miles and turn right and follow the curved road to the first house directly on that road (you will pass two other houses). Alternatively you can go an additional 0.15 miles and turn right and follow that same curved road to the first house on the right. See http://www.tcs.org/refurb.htm for a map.
