by Mike Henson Tulsa Computer Society We had 7 people come out to the March meeting, which was a music jam session. It was raining a lot that evening, and I think we could have had more people out if it had not been for the rain. We may do this again in the near future so that more people can participate.

Glenn Hogg brought out his Roland keyboard, and I brought out my Casio keyboard, and we had a lot of fun playing around with both of them. Glenn's keyboard is a lot more sophisticated than mine, and he was able to load MIDI files using its built-in floppy drive. He could then play the MIDI files and then play along with them, adding chords or melodies. His keyboard also has a microphone input so that he can sing along with the songs, just like a karaoke machine. He can also change the pitch up or down, and display the words to the songs. He was a regular one man show.

We played several songs, ranging from country to big band, and from pop to rock and roll. Some of us got up and danced to the music, while others took turns singing along. We also connected the two keyboards together using a MIDI cable, and were able to do some interesting things. We played the keys on one keyboard to get a piano sound, while the other keyboard would play back strings or some other instrument at the same time. We got some fun combinations.

We also had plenty of popcorn to eat, and there was a pop machine in the next room. We had so much fun that we went way past 9:00PM just making music and cutting up. Take a look at the photos below.

The April meeting will be about several handy audio tools for your Windows PC. Come join the fun at the Harmon Foundation, 2901 S. Harvard, on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM.
