PopUp Killer

Tired of annoying pop-up ads when surfing the Net? Download and install PopUp Killer.

It works with Windows 95 or later, Internet Explorer or Netscape, and is free to try, $7 "donation accepted" if you like it. You can also control the number of browser windows you permit to be opened at the same time, a feature that becomes really handy when browsing really annoying sites that open new pages when you close a browser window. If you like noise, you can even configure it to produce sounds when it kills a popup. MAC OS users can use the Sherlock Ad Remover.

Caldera OpenLinux 3.1

Gary Ludwig, one of the volunteers at Refurbishing Computers asked me to download the latest version of Caldera's OpenLinux 3.1 since I have a Cable Modem connection. It took 2-1/2 hours to download the 650mb file from Caldera's FTP Site but I still have the ISO file (OpenLinux3.1_Workstation_CD1.iso) on my hard disk, so if you need me to burn you a CD like I did for Gary let me know.

QuickTime 5 Plugin or handling video, sound, animation, graphics, text, music, and even 360-degree virtual reality (VR) scenes. A gateway for rich media including images, music, MIDI, MP3 and more.

Ultraedit

I have demonstrated it in several meetings, but when making up a list of useful programs I can't forget UltraEdit8.10b which is the best Text Editor - HEX Editor - HTML Editor - Programmers Editor I have ever run across. It is a shareware program. If you find it useful and continue to use it after 45 days, you are obligated to register it with the author, but it only costs $30, and I consider that money well spent.

Motherboard Monitor

Motherboard Monitor, which can be downloaded from Tweak Files, is a tool that will display information from the sensor chip on your motherboard in your Windows system tray. MBM supports a wide range of Chipsets & Sensor Chip combinations.

ResMan

ResMan is a integrates a resource monitor, process manager and memory recovery into a single little utility (124 kb) for Windows 9x/Me that resides in the system tray. ResMan will require the Microsoft libraries in this 16kb archive if they aren't already installed in your system directory. It is one of several interesting utilities available for free from EnTech Taiwan.
