Richard Hall reviewed Windows 98 installation and data communications at the
TCS Super Saturday meeting on June 20th. About nine members were in
attendance to see the program, including Don Singleton who was happy but
tired, having just arrived from the NYC PC Expo computer exposition. Richard
installed the April beta version on a 486 100 MH clone while demoing the new
operating system on a 233 MH AMD machine. The demo consisted of looking at
the features that are available with the new system, especially those located
under Program/Accessories/System Tools. No problems were encountered but the
installation went slowly on the clone. The 486 computer was barely above the
minimum hardware required for installation of the program. After installing
the operating system, the clone disk drive was formatted with the new 32 bit
File Allocation Table (FAT). The meeting also saw some data communications
with Win98 on the Internet through WebZone and CompuServe. A good time was
had by all.
Present: Don Singleton, Ken Weston, Dan O'Rourke, Jr., Pat Crowley, Steve
Clevenger, Gordon Leaman, Don Greer, Jerry Williams, Dave Knox, and Richard
Hall
