From the August 1998 issue of the I/O Port Newsletter

In last month's I/O Port I reviewed Human Software's product "Squizz" This month I spent time playing with "Textissimo." This product allows the user to create all sorts of varied text. See the accompanying jpeg file on the TCS web site at http://www.tcs.org/ioport/textis.htm. The Design Collection lists for $229.00 and contains "Sqizz 3.0", "Ottopaths 1.0", and "Textissimo 2.0." The manual is provided on the CD-Rom and can be printed or read as a pdf document. The Human Soft web site can be found at: http://www.humansoft.com. The company is located in Saratoga California. Their phone number is: (408) 399-0057; their fax number is: (408) 399-0157. The product can be downloaded and tried before a serial number needs to be purchased.

I tried this product on a Pentium 200 using NT4 as my OS. I used Corel Photo-Paint 8. This product can be installed as a plugin into any program that is compatible to Photoshop 3.0 or higher.

Textissimo can produce many interesting effects. Text is created in the filter and then various effects are selected. There are many variations that can be achieved through the use of channels and paths. Almost every aspect is editable. It is important to read the manual which comes as a 34 page pdf file to be read using Adobe Acrobat Reader which is a free program. If Acrobat Reader is not already on a machine, it can be installed from the "Acro_win" folder. The only problem I found is that Texissimo's interface was at first confusing. Once I read the beginning part of the manual, using Texissimo became a snap. For those interested in creating interesting effects with text, I suggest downloading a sample version and trying it out. While I do not work much with text, I can envision how this product would be useful to a graphic designer working in the raster mode, ie.; working with programs like Adobe Photoshop, Corel PhotoPaint, etc.
