Minutes for August 14, 1997

by Docia McCloud

From the January 1998 issue of the I/O Port Newsletter

Don Singleton, President of the Tulsa Computer Society, called the meeting to order with representatives Bruce Carson, Ione Carson, Paula Sanders, Don Sanders, Docia McCloud, Paul McCloud, V. J. Niemeyer, and Jim Huse in attendance.

The minutes of the May 8 meeting were read. Bruce Carson moved the minutes be approved, Paula Sanders seconded and the motion passed.

Jim Huse gave the Treasurer's report showing a balance of $16,183.16.

Membership Secretary Bruce Carson handed out Special Interest Group membership reports to all the SIG leaders. He reported that we have 518 members as of this date.

Don reported that the refurbishing group had found a new home in Mounds at the Bethesda Boy s Ranch. He expressed his appreciation to all those that helped with the move and said that four or five members are still making the thirty mile drive to work on computers.

Bruce Carson moved that we reimburse Don for the $500 he spent to fix the luggable. Don Sanders seconded and the motion passed.

The club has been using Don Singleton's luggable and Bruce Carson's laptop for all its meetings since the club was founded, and they have borne the cost of all equipment repairs and all the costs to keep the software up to date for all the SIG groups. Since we have a great need for a new computer, Docia moved that we authorize the expenditure of up to $4,000 to purchase a new luggable. A committee, composed of Paula Sanders, Bruce Carson and Don Singleton, agreed that the prices were near bottoming out. It was recommended that the purchase be made whenever the committee feels it is the optimal time. Paul seconded the motion and it passed by unanimous vote.

Paula voiced some concerns about the lack of young people attending the meetings. We discussed different ways, such as flyers, to attract students.

With no other business being brought before the council, Paul moved we adjourn and Paula seconded. The motion passed and the meeting adjourned at 8:35 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Docia McCloud , Recording Secretary
