Chicken or Egg

We had to reformat the D: drive of the luggable and reinstall Windows 95 from scratch, and the copy of Internet Explorer it installed did not support tables or frames. I don't care that much for frames, but we use tables extensively in the TCS web page, so I used the old IE and went to www.microsoft.com to download the latest version. Guess what, they now use frames in their web page, and when a browser that does not support frames goes to a web page that uses frames, they only see one frame, and the way the Microsoft web page was set up, to download the latest version of IE, you need to click on a Download button in a frame other than the default frame. So you can't use the IE on the original Win95 CD, to download the latest version of IE. OK, so I thought I would go to the www.netscape.com page and download some version of Netscape, and use it to download IE. Well for some reason, the original IE crashed when I tried to go to Netscape. I don't know whether Bill put something in that version to prevent users from getting the competition's browser or what, but I tried it several times.

I was able to get both versions, of course. I left 95, went to 3.1, and used Netscape to download both the 32 bit Netscape and 32 bit Internet Explorer.

I also left a message for the Microsoft Webmaster, so by the time you read this, they may have fixed their web page so people can download IE. It seemed strange that they did not realize it already.
