Cool Web Sites

When I worked up the list of links for Science Fiction on the Internet for a seminar I gave at Defcon4, I was somewhat surprised at the number of Science Fiction TV Shows where complete Episode Guides were available on the Net. But I figured SciFi just has a large following amoung Net users. Out of curiosity I decided to run a check on Touched by an Angel, one of my favorite shows, and found a site (
http://www.angeltouch.com/webangel/tbaaframe.htm) for that show, and their companion show Promised Land, and it not only had Episode Guides for the first three seasons, but it had some for episodes that have not yet aired. Well let us check some other current shows. What about E.R. (
http://www.nbc.com/tvcentral/shows/er/index.html, among many other links) Chicago Hope (
http://www.pacificnet.net/~fidodido/chope-ep-guide.html, among many other links), and JAG
(http://www.cbs.com/primetime/jag.html). Then I thought well sure there were pages for current shows, but, thinking back to Touched by an Angel, I bet there are none for Highway to Heaven. Wrong. What about
http://members.aol.com/cadetteel/htoh.htm. Well let's see about some shows currently in syndication.
I tried Quincy (http://www1.mhv.net/~mbatira/quincy/),
Eight Is Enough (http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/4656/08eiebdy.htm),
Life Goes On (http://pages.prodigy.net/lgodave/index.html),
and Picket Fences (http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/Set/1829/)
I guess just about any show that makes it on the air must have enough of a following so that either the Network or the Producer or some Fan will put up a web page for the show, frequently all three will promote the show. You can get Episode Guides, pictures and bios of the stars, and many of the supporting cast, sound clips, and many other items of interest to fans of the shows.
In fact I found that
http://www.yahoo.com/News_and_Media/Television/Shows/ lists a number of different categories of Television Shows, and the number of web pages in each category is shown in parenthesis.

For a truly comprehensive understanding of all of this, see the El Nino Theme Page, put together by various laboratories of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Van Gogh
http://van-gogh.org/
Been searching the Web hoping to find a quality Vincent van Gogh site? Something you're willing to give your left ear for?
Handshake in Thought is dedicated to the life
of the famous painter. Handshake goes right to the source: you'll find a gallery of images, selected letters by Vincent (the bulk to his brother Theo), excerpts from the memoirs of Johanna van Gogh Bonger, a FAQ, and more. What adds to the interest of the site is the way it's all tied together. For example, you can read the letters on their own or as a part of the galleries, where the artist's words and images come together to bring context to his work.
