Cutline is Andromeda's latest filter. According to Andromeda, it was created in response to demands for a filter to emulate black and white engravings and wood carvings. Anyone who has used their screens filter, will realize the power of these mezzotint line conversion filters. The Cutline filter creates the classic lines associated with early printing techniques. While this filter is specific in its purpose, it still allows for endless possibilities through the manipulation of the intensity, placement, and direction of the lines.

Cutline is a Photoshop plugin filter which also means that it should work with other graphic programs that utilize the Photoshop filter architecture. It can be downloaded from the Andromeda site of http://www.andromeda.com for $69.00.

I see great potential for this filter. Very interesting results can be obtained through the use of this filter. For my style of work, I found that I liked the results best when I applied this filter to a selection rather than uniformly to a whole scene. One of the Cutline tools is called a stamper. This tool's purpose is to position lines generated by this filter in different directions. Illustrations for this review can be found in the current issue of the I/O Port on the Tulsa Computer Society website of http://www.tcs.org/ioport/dec99.cutline.htm.

The filter worked flawlessly as do all of the other Andromeda filters that I have used. In order to see examples created by Andromeda, look them up at their website.
