Midi Music and Multimedia SIG

We had 12 people out for the December meeting, where we talked about MP3 music files again. We had covered this topic earlier in the year, but some people didn't make that meeting, so we repeated it. There still seems to be a lot of interest in MP3 music these days.

We looked at various MP3 players and utilities, including Winamp, MusicMatch, and RightClick. These programs are used to play MP3 files, and some of them can also create MP3 files from WAV files or directly from an audio CD-ROM. MusicMatch can even be used to create a CD from MP3 and WAV files (provided you have a CD-Writer). We also looked at Napster, a program that allows you to download songs in MP3 format over the Internet.

For more information on MP3 music files, see our April 2000 meeting report.

The January meeting will be on using Band-in-a-Box, an auto song-making package for only $88. The February meeting will be on using PowerTracks Pro Audio, a MIDI Sequencing and Digital Recording package for only $29. Come join the fun at the Harmon Foundation, 2901 S. Harvard, on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM.
