I would like to go into some detail on what the purpose and focus is of this group. I am firstly an artist and chose a few years ago to express myself on the computer. There are two main components to any piece of art - the technical and the aesthetic. While I hope to be able to discuss both, I realize that the majority of people want to know how to manipulate tools, get effects, use different programs, etc. I will be emphasizing the latter with the hope that some people will want to address the artistic element as well. I will not be showing people how to put images on the web or create brochures. For that we have Internet and desktop publishing sigs. I will, however, be discussing the tools necessary to manipulate the objects in an image and create that image.
I spoke to someone the other day who had seen the announcement for this last meeting in October's I/O Port and was under the impression that the whole group was contemplating using Micrografx Draw. When Don Singleton wrote the article stating that, I was away on vacation and there obviously had been a lack of communication between us before I left.
I will be demonstrating techniques using some of the major image editing and vector drawing products. The topic for October will be on "USING LAYERS". This half hour presentation will be followed by a Q & A period. I, also, will be giving a short demonstration on changing file size and resolutions. We meet the last Thursday of every month at the Allie Beth Martin Regional Library on Garnet between 21st and 31st St. The meeting starts at 7PM.
Since one of the programs I reviewed this month was MetaCreation's (formerly Fractal Design's) Painter 5, I have put together two files on the TCS web site called filters.jpg and Mountain Home.jpg which show some different ways to manipulate images in both Painter 5 and Adobe Photoshop 4. The TCS website address is http://www.tcs.org.
