TCS - Graphic SIG Report for October

Graphic SIG Report for October

by Paula Sanders
Tulsa Computer Society
From the December 1997 issue of the I/O Port Newsletter

We explored two main topics in October, one was the relationship between resolution, the linear size of an image, and its file size; the other was how to use layers in programs that are layer oriented like Photoshop. We will discuss how to stack objects and manipulate them in object oriented programs at a future date when the new computer is ready for use.

Since both November s and December's meetings are canceled due to a conflict with the holidays, the library has given us December 9th for a meeting. We will meet at the Martin East Regional Library at 7PM. The library is located on Garnet near 25th street The topic for the meeting is Color Correction. We will spend more than one meeting on this important topic.

Each meeting I would like to spend some time on helping to correct problems that members have with their images. If we have the particular program on the computer, we will use it. If not, we will use a similar program. Once the new computer is ready, we will have the availability of a zip drive. For the December meeting, if anyone needs help, bring a jpeg file on a floppy. This is the best way to work. Even if a file looks terrible, and we cannot do much with it, please do not hesitate to bring it because knowing the parameters for correction are very important.

I hope to see people in December. I really appreciated those people who sent me e-mail stating why they could not come to the last meeting. While that was not expected, as a teacher it, felt very good.

I get phone calls every month inquirng about the level of this SIG. In brief, a basic knowledge of the computer is necessary. The people already coming to this SIG fall into the categories of beginner-intermediate. This level will progress as the sessions do.

Please remember that I am available for questions during the month. I enjoy helping out members who are trying to learn graphics. If the questions involve how to put images on the web, please call Don Singleton since I am not versed in that area although I am starting to learn. If it involves getting images ready for the web, I can help. There are also many good books available on that topic.

If members have found programs that they really like or books that are truly helpful, please let me know and I will share them in this column. Also, often members who are new at graphics can come up with tips for other novices that I overlook. Let s share ideas with each other and let me include them in this monthly SIG column.

Adobe has sent us information about a special deal on filters for Photoshop plus Fresco which is a collection of royalty free textural images. These come at a great price! Come to the December 9th meeting to find out more about them. Hopefully we will have some of these programs to demonstrate.

Remember, I can be reached at 664-7707 or through e-mail at: 102353.2532@Compuserve.com. Please call no later than 8:30 pm.
