Internet

The November 20 Internet meeting, where we planned to talk about statistics showing all the different places our web site was being seen from, and how people were viewing it (which browsers, what screen resolution, etc), had to be cancelled because there was a class in the room. It turns out that class was not supposed to be there, but we did not know about it, so we had to leave.

We rescheduled the presentation for the December 9 meeting, and had a pretty good turnout for that meeting. I hope that anyone who came to the November 20 meeting and wanted to see it, was able to make it on December 9.

We talked about other programs people wanted to see in the future, and had a pretty good discussion. Unfortunately I did not have a pad of paper with me to write down every thing, so if I forgot anything, or if anyone thinks of something else they would like to see, please contact me at djs@ionet.net.

There is a desire to see something on NetMeeting, with an actual demo. Mike Henson showed it at the Midi Music meeting in November, but they did not have a phone line available. We have one in Keplinger, but the speed of connection we can achieve with it it is not that great, due to the quality of the phone lines, but we will see what we can come up with.

There was a request to demonstrate something about how meta tags worked in conjunction with search engines. That is a little too narrow for a program, but I think if we expand it to registering a web page with search engines, and a few related web site promotion topics we could have a reasonable program, and I will see what I can do to come up with such a program for 2001.

Speaking of web sites, I showed a new web site which I created, after being frustrated at the month long battle between Bush and Gore. If you are a Gore supporter you won't want to take a look at it, because it would just upset you, but if you are a Bush supporter you might want to take a look at http://singleton.virtualave.net/. Right now that site can also be referenced as http://donsingleton.com, but I will probably move that domain name to another site sometime after Jan 20 when the new president will be sworn in.
