Last month, Cindy Hulsey wrote about one of the seventy online databases available at TCCL's eLibrary, www.tulsalibrary.org. This month CQ Researcher is the featured database.

CQ Researcher has long been a favorite resource for detailed information on current events and hot topics. As a print resource, publishing began as Educational Research Reports in 1926 and CQ Press is now the leading publisher of resources on American government, politics, current events and world affairs. The publisher's hallmark is scrupulous objectivity and balance. Every report is written by an experienced journalist and features comments from experts, lawmakers and citizens on all sides of every issue.

Each week CQ Researcher publishes new in-depth analytical research focused on the most current and/or controversial issue of the day. Recent titles include 'Civil Liberties in War Time,' 'Distance Learning' and 'Hating America.' Every article is about 12,000 words and includes a chronology, the pros and cons of all sides of the issue, background of the debate or controversy, an outlook, and a wonderful bibliography. In addition, an 'In the News' feature provides current news stories with links back to related studies previously published by CQ Researcher.

The database contains the full text of articles from November 1991 to the present.

CQ Researcher is especially valuable for students who are writing research papers or participating in debate. Information on topics of interest to the U.S. government can generally be found in this database. The proper format for citing CQ articles is easy to access from their main page.

Available at all Tulsa City-County Libraries, CQ Researcher articles can be viewed and printed in PDF and plain text as well as e-mailed out.

CQ Researcher is available at www.tulsalibrary.org/reference/onlinedatabases.htm. For more information about CQ Researcher and additional eLibrary services and resources call 596.7977.
