Right now we have three web boards created: one for the Online Council, some very active members of TCS who have agreed to consider various proposals and give their recommendations, and perhaps help us staff new projects, one for the Internet Sig, where members are encouraged to let me know what new programs they would like to see at our two Internet Sig meetings each month, and one for the Access Sig. If these two Sig boards find members frequently using them, and if we see interest in additional boards being established for other Sigs, we can certainly create them. I don't want a large number if they are not going to be actively used, because it would be too easy for someone to post a message and have it go unresponded to, because others gave up ever seeing messages there, and ceased to monitor it.
When you click on the Web Board you will be presented with a screen that looks like:
If you just want to read, and not contribute, you can select Guest. If you want to both read and respond to messages, and post new ones, you need to register as a New User. You will be asked to fill out a short questionaire, including providing your email address, and then a temporary password will be sent to you:
Once you have read that message (and perhaps marked the temporary password and copied it to the clipboard), you can go back to the Login Screen and enter the name you provided in the questionaire, and paste in the temporary password. If you wish, you can then change your password to something you can remember much easier than your temporary password.
Please do not make the mistake that some have made, and try to sign on by just going to the Name / Password box, and trying to sign on as a new user there. It won't work.
If your browser is set to allow cookies, you can check the box to remember your password, and subsequently you will be logged on automatically, as long as you are using the same computer.
