The End of the Internet

Have you ever wondered where the Internet begins and where it ends? Well, we've found the answer to one of those thought-provoking questions. This site, based on a server located in the city of St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, claims to be the final directory entry of the easternmost web server on the Web. The site purveyors are quick to inform you that you can find out all kinds of neat stuff about Newfoundland on the Internet, but not here, because you've reached THE END. And with no other links or navigational tools available at this page, they're also quick to point out that once here, you'll have to TURN AROUND. This is a hilarious URL to pass on to a friend or colleague to let them experience a little finality within the vastness of cyberspace.

Wacky Web Tales

Brought to you by Houghton Mifflin's excellent Education Place For Kids, Wacky Web Tales allows kids to create their own personalized versions of weird tales from the Web. Kids select one of several stories and enter in adjectives, nouns, personal info and other identifiers, and Wacky Web Tales comes back with a complete story based on their info and experiences. Another great feature is the ability for kids to post their own complete stories and have Wacky Tales "customize" them for use on the site. The kids get full credit for their submissions, which is a great ego boost. An excellent grammar and writing skills teacher, Wacky Web Tales is sure to keep your kids busy (and laughing) for hours on end.

Nuclear Blast Mapper

Ten years ago this would have a truly frightening website to visit, but with all that's happened recently in global politics it's just a cool site to check out and learn a little something about mankind's darker side along the way. Pick the size of nuclear detonation you'd like to see, select a target city or ZIP code, and the program retrieves maps and data that show concentric "damage rings" according to the size of the bomb. Fallout readings with different weather conditions are also available.
