Internet Sig

From the June 1999 issue of the I/O Port Newsletter

At the Monday, April 27 Internet Sig Meeting we covered Email, both Outlook Express and Netscape. One question from the audience "was will it check your mail while you are online doing something else." As I showed in Netscape, if you go to Edit, Preferences, click the + in front of Mail & Newsgroups, select Mail Servers, click on the appropriate mail server in the Incoming Mail Servers area, and click on Edit, you can tell it to check for mail every nn minutes, and to automatically download any new messages.

If you have a sound card and your speakers turned on, when it finds new mail it will make the New Mail Notification sound (notify.wav), and if you wanted some other sound you could go to Settings, Control Panel, Sounds, and select a different sound file for New Mail Notification. In addition it will put a small icon in your system tray (bottom of the screen on the right) to indicate you have new mail.
