Contact Your State Legislators

In the past Fred Perry and I have disagreed about a number of things, but one thing we both agreed about is that the state legislature should provide proposed Oklahoma legislation on the Internet, including bill tracking capabilities, so that Oklahoma citizens could keep an eye on legislation proposed at the state level, just like they can do at the Federal level, so that they could let legislators know when they supported proposed legislation, and when they disagreed, they would have the benefit of having read the precise language in the proposed bills, and could better advise their legislators what they wanted to see changed.

House Bill 1315 calling for this sort of citizen access to the legislative process was defeated in the Senate without even a hearing in a Senate Committee. It appears unlikely that the bill can make it out this year, but one can never tell what legislators can do if they understand from the citizens that they are upset at the legislation being defeated, and certainly a show of support should give legislators a little pause before defeating such legislation next year.
