Internet Sig

From the March 2001 issue of the I/O Port Newsletter

At the January 13 the program was on "Domain Names and DNS", and we actually registered a domain name, reserved space to host a web page using that domain, uploaded an already prepared webpage to the host site, and used an online capability with the Domain Registration company to point the new domain name at the hosting site's DNS. The only thing we could not complete that day was actually telling the host to make the necessary entry in their DNS, but that was because they would not do that until they saw that the domain name was pointing to them, and that was not going to happen on Saturday. It had happened by very early Wednesday morning, Jan 17, and I used the link I showed on Saturday to tell the host company (Virtualave) to set up the DNS, and on Wednesday morning I saw that the http://clinton-legacy.org/ domain was active and pointing to the space.

The Internet Sig meeting on January 29 was on "Meta Tags and Web Site Promotion". We had trouble with luggie, so I was unable to demonstrate things. I tried to talk people through the discussion, and was asked to reschedule the presentation at a later date. My intention was to assign the meta tags and register my latest web site, http://bushsupporter.org, with search engines during the meeting, but since luggie did not work, I had to do that after the meeting.

February 10 Richard Hall will do a program on Secure Connections (SSL) and Privacy

February 26 we will cover Cool Web Sites

February 27 at the General Meeting we have an internet related program by Mike Henson on NetMeeting
