Duplicate photos

I have digital photos on my hard drive that are in different folders. Many are duplicates. My wife likes puzzles so I asked her if she would hunt for duplicates. "Too much work."

The problem with checking for duplicate filenames isn't the answer because I might have, mycar.jpg, photo0003.jpg, picture010.jpg, etc. (All the same picture.)

Another problem, photo0019.jpg on separate folders is not the same picture. So I went to DOS and went to a picture sub-directory. I issued a command:

ren *.jpg *.jpeg

In Windows, I moved all these files to another folder, then I did a Arrange Icons By File Size and setting the view to Thumbnails. I could see duplicate pictures. Then I was able to delete the duplicates.

Now, I am happy, my wife is happy, and my hard drive is happy.

I just discovered another alternative: PixScan
