We had 6 people come out to the February meeting, where we took another look back at MOD music. Just when you thought MOD music was dead, there comes along a bunch of new software and web sites for it. One web site alone had over 25,000 free songs written in MOD format.

Of course, I need to preface this by pointing out that most of MOD music is written by young musicians that favor the new style of music. And the format of making MOD music lends itself to making rhythmic, pulsating, dance type music. So the majority of MOD music is Techno, Trance, Disco, and Dance. But if you look hard, you will also find lots of Pop, Ambient, Ballad, Jazz, and even some Rock and Roll.

We took a look at some MOD players and editors. Here is a list of some of the more popular ones that run in Windows:

And here are some good web sites to get MOD music or more info about it:

There are also some programs out there that will convert MIDI to MOD, MOD to MIDI, and MOD to WAV. They can be found at www.hornet.org/music/programs/convert.

The March meeting will be a music jam session. If you have a portable keyboard, guitar, or any musical instrument, then bring it with you and we'll have some fun. If not, then come out anyway and sit and listen as we try to pick out a tune or two. Come join the fun at the Harmon Foundation, 2901 S. Harvard, on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM.
