Thanks for your patience tonight. Sorry about the hardware problems, but I learned a lot.

I was anxious to get home tonight and troubleshoot the hardware problems. I hooked everything up and it was as if nothing happened - everything worked fine. And the keyboard icon was back in the device manager. My solution this the hardware issue that we experienced tonight may be to get another Microsoft Keyboard like the one I have at home for our TCS meeting. OK, I heard someone say "Microsoft - Well THERE'S your Problem!" Well, it is a good keyboard, even if it is about three times the cost as those at the swap meet. And even Ubuntu likes it. I will keep you posted.

Mike Sheehan evidently went straight home and found this link along from Kim Komando. Sysinternals was purchased recently by Microsoft. MS is continuing to release the Sysinternals freeware tools which seem to be very good, if somewhat complicated, at troubleshooting. This link is to a free suite of tools but I have not tried any of them. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/SysinternalsSuite.mspx There are some more links in the frame to the right that also look promising, including some video links.

Here is the link to PC Magazine list of Freeware that we talked about tonight: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2090787,00.asp

If you are going to copy the page to a word processor file like I do, I would recommend going to the print file link and then copy that to the clipboard and then into your word processor. You get the whole article on one screen and you do not get the adds or other pictures.

Here is the link to the sticky notes program that we discussed tonight: http://www.komando.com/downloads/category.aspx?id=2019

The TPD speaker for next week is (hopefully) Sgt. Tim Stadler, Cybercrime Unit, Tulsa Police Department. Perhaps we can also get a report from Fred Greene about his CD writing progress.

Regards,
Richard Hall
