Another out-of-this-world website from NASA, "From Stargazers to Starships" is a tutorial exposition focused on 3 topics: the astronomy of the Earth's motion in space, Newtonian mechanics and spaceflight and spacecraft. Dedicated to helping high-school-level students understand everything from the motion of the Earth to spaceflight, the site deals with the world of gravity -massive planets and stars and the way spaceflight is achieved despite their strong pull. A previous NASA site, linked to this one and called "Exploration of the Earth's Magnetosphere", contains lessons about the hot (but usually rarefied) gases which fill most of space and are ruled by magnetic and electric forces rather than by gravity. The polar aurora, the radiation belts, the solar wind, magnetic storms, "space weather", cosmic radiation - delve into both these lessons and you'll have a fairly decent understanding of how space flight is achieved.

The Feature Stories section contains new stories for each month in text and streaming audio versions.
Convinced that history is best learned by understanding timelines rather than memorizing dates and events, the author of this chart, Andreas Nothiger, has made it available for use online as an educational tool. Using this unique timeline, you can check out what was happening around the world in 1865 while America was in the midst of a Civil War - the first Trans-Atlantic cable was laid and the Boer War was raging in Africa. An overall History category shows you a master timeline which is color-coded to help you keep track of the region you're viewing. You can also view timelines that show the lifespans of famous figures or timelines that show events in more detail.
Brought to you by author Joey Green, this site takes a look at a variety of common household products and the weird and wonderful "other" uses they have around the house. For instance, did you know that Alka-Seltzer can be used to remove burned-on grease from a pot or pan or that Carnation Nonfat Dry Milk can be used to paint your house? While the product list isn't overwhelming, the many uses Mr. Green and his fans have found for these items is, and the Weird Facts area of the site is definitely one to check out and learn some of the more bizarre trivia about common products we use every day.
