Internet

It is not normally an Internet Meeting but Dennis Myers was unable to attend the March 19 Windows Clinic Meeting so he asked me to fill in for him, and I did a program on PowerPoint Presentations. Links are available on the TCS website. I am really glad that Dennis could not make it to the meeting, because only three people showed up. It is bad enough to have that poor a turnout when one of us is putting on a program, but I would really hate it if we had that poor a turnout when a guest speaker like Dennis came to give a program. If you are tired of the Windows Clinic meetings please let us know, and we will cancel them, but if we are going to have them please make an effort to come.

As I mentioned in last month's I/O Port (Where Was Everyone? article) at the March 10 Super Saturday meeting we had one (count em' 1) person show up for the morning Question and Answer session, and only four at the afternoon Internet Sig meeting.

The following Wednesday March 14, we had two people show up for the morining Daytimers Q&A meeting, and only 1 showed up for the afternoon Learning the Internet meeting (and she only stayed 15 minutes because she did not have that many questions herself, and planned to learn from the questions raised by others). And then at the March 19 Windows Clinic meeting only 3 showed up.

It takes a lot of effort to bring the equipment in, set it up, and then tear it down and lug it back to the car, and it is difficult to justify doing this for such small turnouts. We will hold these meetings in April (April 11 for the Wednesday meetings, April 14 for the Super Saturday meetings, and April 16 for Windows Clinic), but if the turnout is this small for those meetings we may have to cancel the meetings.

The Daytimers and Learning the Internet meetings have been cancelled beginning in May because of rennovation work being done at the library, and we will find out on April 11 whether we have enough interest to reschedule something somewhere else, or whether we can just consolidate those meetings into other TCS meetings.

On March 10 we covered Meta Tags and Web Site Promotion, and on March 26 we covered PCA, FTP, and Other Clients. We did have a fairly reasonable turnout (10 people) for the March 26 meeting).

On April 14 Richard Hall will cover PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) and on April 30 I will present a program on Comparison Shopping on the Net.
