Midi Music and Multimedia Sig Report

We had 10 people come out to the September meeting, which was a "swap meet" for exchanging MIDI files and programs. I had over 2,000 MIDI songs and several programs to share with everyone, and many others also brought some of their stuff. We fired up the PC and played samples of various MIDI songs, so that everyone could get an idea of what they wanted to make a copy of. I brought along some formatted AOL and CompuServe diskettes for those who forgot to bring their own diskettes, so everyone there was able to get copies of whatever they wanted. We had everything from classical to country, from rock to jazz, and from the 40's to the 90's. We also talked about where you can get free MIDI software and songs on the internet. A few good sites that I recommend are: www.midifarm.com, w3.one.net/~kklasmei, and www.flexfx.com.

The October meeting will be on creating music from scratch using "smart" music generation software, such as Band-in-a-Box and Jammer. At the November meeting we will review various educational software packages for music. Come join the fun at the Harmon Foundation, 2901 S. Harvard, on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM.
