The digital audio editing packages allow you to enhance your audio recordings by adding effects such as digital delay (echo), chorus, reverb, flange, distortion, treble, bass, vibrato, fades, crossfades, compression, gain change, phase inversion, and more. Some of the packages even allow you to "burn", or write, a CD-ROM disk. Some of the packages were exclusively made for digital audio mixing and editing, while others allowed you to synch the digital audio with MIDI music.
We had 3 handouts for everyone: (1) "A Buyer's Guide to Digital Audio Processing Software", which listed many popular brands of digital recording software available on the market, and what their capabilities are. (2) "Digital Audio Products", which is a listing of several digital audio hardware and/or software products that you can buy over the Internet, showing both the suggested retail price and the "street" price (generally 20%-30% less). (3) We also had several brochures and flyers from various digital audio vendors, telling us all about the latest in digital music software and hardware products.
The July meeting will be on creating your own Karaoke music on your PC. The August meeting will be on creating music from scratch using "smart" music generation software. At the September meeting we will all bring out our collections of (royalty-free) MIDI songs and have a "swap meet". We will also talk about good places to find MIDI music and digital recordings and WAV files on the Internet. Come join the fun at the Harmon Foundation, 2901 S. Harvard, on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM.
