A nominating committee met through email, and approved the following slate of officers for 1998:

PresidentDon Singleton
Vice PresidentBruce Carson
Membership SctyBruce Carson
Recording SctyDocia McCloud
TreasurerJim Huse
EditorDon Singleton
SysopKen Snitz
I want to thank Bruce for being willing to serve as VP in addition to Membership Secretary if I could not find anyone else to do the job. I tried four people who are all extremely reliable people, and who have helped the club in various ways, but one could not serve because of health problems, and the other three were not certain they would be able to continue their involvement for the entire year (at least I must admire them for being willing to admit that).

We really need to get some more people involved in running the club. Bruce and I are just about at our limits (and in some cases beyond them). Bruce was able to fill in for me last month getting the equipment to meetings when I had to go to New York to try to locate a hotel for APCUG to sponsor an event in June, and I really appreciated his help then, as I appreciated Dan White handling the Java meeting, and Docia McCloud handling the Word Processing meeting. But if Bruce developed serious health problems and had to cut back significantly I would not be able to absorb everything he does, and if I should have health problems he could certainly not expand to cover everything I do. It would be unrealistic for either of us to expect to find someone to do as much as either of us does, but I really wish people would examine their skills and if they think they could do one or two programs at one of the meetings step forward and offer to help. It was Docia McCloud's expression of willingness to do this that had me so happy in the December I/O Port that I might get a vacation at one meeting, and be able to just sit and watch, and then I had to ask her to do her program while I was in New York, and was not even able to see the program.

If you can do like Docia did, and offer to do a program or two, please do. If you can help write articles for the I/O Port, or help with the I/O Port paste-up, or help me deal with advertisers and get their ads in on time, or help distribute copies of the I/O Port to stores around town that don't get it, or meet us at 6:30 and help us carry the equipment in and then back out at the end of the meeting, or become an assistant sig leader and help us plan meetings, or perhaps even take over the leadership of a sig, please step forward. Bruce and I need the help.

Speaking of I/O Port distribution, were some of my distributors out of town in December? I had more of the January papers left over than normal. If you missed some of your sites, we still have January papers left, and perhaps when you pick up the February issue you will want to grab some January issues to take as well. People who were used to picking up papers where you leave them may not have gotten a January paper.

If my current distributors would be willing to add another site or two, I would be happy to have someone cover RapidFire, 3 bundles at 5436 South Mingo Road, or Linda Hargraves booth (1 bundle) at the Flea Market on the North side of Admiral, just west of the traffic circle at Mingo Road. Give me a call if you want to add them to your list, and see whether I have had time to drop off the February papers there or not. Also please write down a list of the sites you cover, and give it to me at a meeting, so when I get a call that a store has run out of papers, and have to take them some more, I can let you know to take them more next month.
