We had 6 people at our October meeting, where we had Mel Sutter come out and bring another player piano for us to see and play with. This one was a dual-action model. It can run on electricity, or foot pedals. I played part of a song using just the foot pedals, and got wore out after a minute or two. Electricity is definitely the way to go. Mel did point out, though, that you can accent notes that are playing by quickly pressing the pedals at the right time.

Mel took the top, front and bottom covers off the piano so we could see all the inner workings. It was really fascinating how it all works. I think we played about 10 different songs, ranging from honky-tonk to classical. I want to thank Mel a lot for brining out these player pianos. I know it is a lot of effort to load it up on a trailer and drive it across town to our meetings. We really appreciate his time and hard work.

The November meeting will be about converting between different music formats, such as MIDI, MOD, WAV and MP3. Come join the fun at the Harmon Foundation, 2901 S. Harvard, on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM.
