Midi Music and Multimedia SIG

From the November 2002 issue of the I/O Port Newsletter

We had 8 people come out to the October meeting, where we took a look at some of the newest games for your PC. I brought along my teenage daughter to show off some of the games, which ranged from logic puzzlers to shoot-em-up action games.

I passed out a handout sheet which listed each of the 22 games we looked at (see below). Six of the games were Freeware, and the rest of them ranged in prices from $7 to $25. Most of the games can be found at www.tucows.com, or you can search on the Internet to find them.

One thing I must stress is that most of today's games are infused with music and sound effects, and they are much more enjoyable if you have a good set of speakers. Go ahead and spend $50-$100 for a set that has a good sub-woofer, and I guarantee you will be glad you did. It's one of the funnest additions you can make to your home computer system.

In November, we will look at cheap video capture cards for your PC, so you can copy those home videos onto your computer and to a CD. The December meeting will be on Software Synthesizers. Come join the fun at the Harmon Foundation, 2901 S. Harvard, on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM.
