With the help of MailWasher's built-in tools, you can decide what to do with each piece of e-mail. You can download it, delete it while it is still on the server, or bounce it back to the sender, making the sender think your address is invalid. My first try with it revealed an e-mail that had a virus attached. I recognized it as an address that sent out the famous Klez virus so I bounced it and deleted it. The status column will provide the following messages: Normal, Virus, Possibly virus, Possibly spam, Probably spam, Chain letter, Blacklisted, Blacklisted by (ORDB, Spam Cop etc).
You can build a friend's list or blacklist, and add individuals or even entire domains to either list. You can even set it to automatically bounce and delete blacklisted e-mails, or whole domains off the server. MailWasher can use external blacklists as well. The program, like Outlook Express, let's you create email filters. You can also preview a message in your e-mail to see what the sender has to say before downloading it. There's more, and you should visit http://www.mailwasher.net/index.php to read more about this very useful piece of software. While the program is free and will run indefinitely, you can pay the author as well. A donation of $3 or more will remove the MailWasher ad window and get you free updates for life. Pay the full price ! of $20 and you'll get e-mail support as well. I paid by credit card via secure Web page and had my registration code in seconds. To download the program, go to: http://www.mailwasher.net.
