At the September 25 Refurbishing Computers meeting Gary Ludwig and I worked on
trying to get five networked 486 class machines ready to send down to Jim
Erwin with the Belize Bible and Trade School, so that the Belize government
would provide them with free internet service for the school. We had three
ready when Victor Mwangi with Word of Life International Ministries came by
to see if we could provide him some machines to take to Nigeria for a
Mission School he will be going to in mid October. We worked on some machines
for Victor on September 25, and then he came back on October 2, and we were
able to fix the floppy drive on one 386 machine he had, and we were able to
get two more 386 machines and two 486 machines ready, so he will have five
machines, in addition to his personal computer, to take with him to Nigeria.
It is not the ten machines he was hoping for, but it was the best we could
do in the limited time available.
Ken Snitz and his son came to the October 2 meeting to bring the old TCS
BBS machine, and the BBS Backup machine, plus some spare parts he got from
a friend that works at Bank of Oklahoma, and they will be back on the
October 23 meeting to learn more about working on computers. We also received
a number of machines donated by the Jewish Center.
