Minutes:
The Sep meeting of the NT SIG was hosted at our new location at the TCC Skyline East Corp Training Center. All members and new attendees were introduced and Ron gave a brief review of the last meeting. Ron then previewed the agenda for the meeting.
Old Business:
1. Our efforts to stress the importance of group members using their e-mail and RSVPing to meeting and any other announcements is beginning to pay off. We had a good (accurate) reply rate from most of our members. Thanks for your attention and cooperation in this matter, it really helps.
2. The new start time of 6:00 PM (with informal chat and snack time until 6:30 PM) is working well and will continue.
3. Formation of committees was discussed again but no new suggestions were adopted. (We still need people to help with coordinating meetings, administrating the Web site, doing news/reviews and trade rag reports, as well as current MS events presentations, and a lot of other things.)
4. Important Notices (repeat):
a) The BOS currently has a mail list hosted by Van Dorsey on his personal Web site (ntsig@mensum.com), all members should post messages directly to that location. Future notifications, possible polls, feedback e-mail, as well as other announcements and items of group interest will be posted thru this venue. Additionally, enrollment in the NT/BOSig (BOS) will be predicated on the addition of a person's e-mail address to our mail list. We need to do this to en sure notification in the event of possible changes in meeting times and places due to our non-standard meeting scenarios. Anyone wishing to be dropped from the list can reply to Van with an "unsubscribe/drop" message.
b) Everyone was encouraged to be sure and check the Web page within 24 hours of the meeting to confirm meeting site and time; moreover, please RSVP (reply) to the e-mail meeting announcement.
New Business: (the following items were presented)
1. No new business.
Program summary:
Scott Dodd, a corporate account rep (from Dallas) from Qualix Group, gave us an interesting and informative presentation on "Octopus". Octopus is a fault-tolerant, fail-over server software technich is becoming very popular in enterprise solutions that require high availability. In addition, we talked briefly about the relationship between technology such as Octopus and server clustering. Thanks Scott.
Next month's program preview:
We will continue to meet in our new standard location - the TCC facility at Skelly Drive and 41st St. We also continue the new time - 6:00 PM and we will be ordering in pizza and pop again. The meeting topic will be a presentation by our own Tad Murphy on Cold Fusion. Cold Fusion is very "hot" right now and this should be a very interesting meeting. We will also need to discuss our options for the November and December meetings as they fall exactly on holidays this year. See you there. Guests, of course, are welcome (Please RSVP if you are planning to join us for pizza).
