Lions & tigers & bears, oh my! We're in the midst of the school year and one of the most in-demand needs of young students is information about animals.

The Tulsa City-County Library subscribes to a fabulous product called EBSCO Animals that is available to library customers both in and outside the library.

Use EBSCO Animals to look up in-depth information on the nature and habitat of familiar animals, insects, birds and fish. Each entry includes the kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus and species as well as the geographical locale where the animal is most commonly found - big homework help here!

The entries include full text articles describing the nature and habitat of the animals. Many articles include photographs and illustrations of the animals as well.

For younger users EBSCO has a fun interface with the animal encyclopedia available via a product called Searchasaurus for Kids. This product provides access to several resources designed for young researchers including a general encyclopedia, a dictionary, Fun Facts, a picture/photography database and the animal encyclopedia. The Searchasaurus version of the animal encyclopedia is the same as EBSCO Animals; it's just more colorful here!

Many of the online databases subscribed to by the library system are geared towards the student researcher. To view a complete list of available products visit Online Databases of Magazines, Newspapers, and More. The colored boxes on this page indicate where each product is available. To access products that are available from outside the library you must have a valid library card.

If you don't have a library card you can apply online or visit your neighborhood library. For more information about joining the library family visit How to Get a Library Card.
