General Meeting

by Don Singleton
Tulsa Computer Society
From the October, 2006 issue of the I/O Port Newsletter

The TCS members looked at a Vista PowerPoint show in Open Office. Richard Hall demoed Kubuntu, the KDE GUI version of the Ubuntu Linux distribution. Richard booted from the Kubuntu CD and looked at the different programs that came bundled with the operating system. Richard distributed five copies of the Kubuntu CD along with the Free Willie CD of Freeware that the TCS members had been reviewing since last year.

Richard reviewed freeware programs on the Free Willie CD with the members including office, utilities and security software. Richard and the members discussed various security issues that were highlighted in the Symantec tenth semiannual Internet Security Threat Report

The members also discussed a news article that malicious software is being designed to spread more slowly in order to escape detection by security software such as anti-virus and anti-spyware programs.

The members briefly discussed meeting on a different date than the next regularly scheduled date of October 31, 2006.
