Do you know how much brown paper you need in order to wrap up two referees? In the end I gave up and tried to get them, despite their objections, into a rather large box which used to house a fridge/freezer, but the Post Office wouldn't take a package that size, and in any case declined to take live cargoes, which I thought was very unreasonable.

Then I tried to fax them. Well, you're never going to squeeze them into the slot on the machine, but I thought - hey, let's use this neat-o technology and scan them, then use a fax modem to send the piccies. No joy. Ever tried to scan an item 6'2" by around 3'? I tried a few experiments doing parts piecemeal with a flatbed scanner, but it was hopeless. I didn't have a digital camera to hand either, so the fax option was ruled out.

Finally, the solution came to me in a flash of inspiration. (Well, a rumble. I was, ahem, in the bathroom at the time.) I'm bending the rules a bit, but I think it should be acceptable.

The referees are coming along tomorrow, in person, with a printout of my email. Is that OK?
