TCS - Reach Out

Reach Out

From the June 1997 issue of the I/O Port Newsletter

TCS members are involved in other activities besides computers (I find that hard to believe, but it is apparently true ), and some of them are working on ways that we can work together for the benefit of both groups.

Jim Huse, our new treasurer, arranged last year for us to have a table to promote Tulsa Computer Society at a State Convention of an accounting organization (CPAs, etc), and is in the processes of setting up something where we can help them with an Internet presentation at a meeting they are having on July 25 at the Adams Mark Hotel. There may even be ways we can work even more closely with their group, possibly even forming a Special Interest Group within TCS focusing on the needs of accountants and other businessmen.

Matt Hart, a former TCS member I met at a picnic lunch with CompuServe sysops and also at a couple of VB SIG classes he taught, is co-chairman of Defcon 4, the largest science fiction, comics, and gaming convention in the Midwest, and he has invited TCS to set up a table and give computer and Internet demonstrations at the convention. It will be held at the Adams Mark Hotel on September 19-21. They will give free 3 days guest passes to anyone who works the table.

If you are interested in volunteering to sit at a table and help promote the Tulsa Computer Society at either the Accountant's meeting or the Science Fiction convention please let me know. And if some other group that you are a member of is having a similar convention, and if you feel that TCS has something to offer the attendees at that convention, and if you can arrange a free table for us at the event, let me know that as well.
