Some Sigs Resume Meeting

The Visual Basic, the Midi Music Sig, and the two Internet Special Interest Group meetings that were cancelled for the summer resume meeting in September. I hope we get a better turnout for them than we were getting when we shut them down for the summer, or we may have to cancel them altogether. I can't speak for the other Sig Leaders (they will determine for themselves what attendence levels it will take for them to host meetings), but as I indicated in July I hated to have to shut the meetings down, but I was only having three or four people show up at most meetings, and the effort prepare a special program, drive to TU, haul all of the equipment in, set it up, and try to conduct a program with that dial up phone line in room M1, then when it was over tear it down, lug it back to the car, and drive home, was just too much for an audience of three or four (even with the help I got setting up and tearing down the equipment, and lugging it out to my car, which I do appreciate). It is much easier for me invite a few people over to my house, and show something on my 19" monitor, using my Cable Modem connection to the internet, so I am serious about the offer to have people come by my house, either one at a time, or two or three at once, and if we don't start getting reasonable turnouts at the meetings at TU, that will be all I will be able to do.

Dolly Allison (835-6076) has indicated that she will not be able to resume her Beginning Windows Sig in September, but she will let us know if and when she is able to begin her classes again. I know how tied up Docia is with her daughter Kitty's illness. As I indicated last month, if members would like to see me fill in for Docia, with either a program on Word Processing, or a general Beginning Windows program, at the 4th Thursday of each month 7:00 p.m. Brookside Library timeslot, please email me. I planned to announce in this September issue what we plan to do, but so far NO ONE has called, either for a Word Processing meeting OR a Beginning Windows meeting. Therefore I guess that is people letting me know they don't want either meeting. If that is incorrect, and if I hear of a significant desire for either meeting, we will try holding such a meeting, but if people don't want it, that is fine with me.

The Windows Clinic Sig (3rd Monday) is still cancelled indefinitely. If there is significant interest later in the year, Dennis Myers (622-3659 or by email) said he might be in a position to revive it, but he was unwilling to commit to a specific day/time/place.
