Upgrade Office 97

From the June 1997 issue of the I/O Port Newsletter

Ron Grattopp, who gave the presentation on Office 97 at the March General Meeting, said that he had received questions about what products qualified for the Upgrade price over the standard retail purchase price. He brought me a list at the April General Meeting, but he did not have it in machine readable form, but I thought I should include it in the I/O Port, so I went to Microsoft's web page and pulled down the list from http://www.microsoft.com/KB/ARTICLES/Q158/0/69.HTM.

As you can tell from the following list, practically any word processing, spread sheet, or database program qualifies you for the upgrade offer to Office 97. This is not surprising, because each of the big three manufacturers would like to persuade you to switch to their suite.

But here is the information on Microsoft Office 97:

Microsoft Office 97 is available in two versions: a retail version that will install on any compatible computer, and an upgrade version that requires that you have a qualifying product installed on your computer or that you have Disk 1 from the qualifying product available when you run the setup program.

This article lists the products that qualify you to use the upgrade Version of Microsoft Office 97. The retail version does not require a qualifying product.
