Letter from the President
The Tulsa Computer Society is a 501(c)3 educational organization whose
purpose is to help people in NorthEast Oklahoma learn how to better
understand and utilize their personal computers. It has approximately
400 members, and about 20 special interest groups, each of which has its
own monthly meeting, so there is a meeting almost every night of the month
(and more than one meeting on some nights). By having so many special
interest groups, members can choose the meetings that interest themselves
the most, and thereby configure the Tulsa Computer Society to their own
personal interests. With all of the possible permutations, it is concievable
that with 400 members, there are 400 different "views" of what the Tulsa
Computer Society is.
Some of our meetings are basically question and answer sessions, where
attendees can ask questions ranging from the extremely basic, to the very
technical, and the leaders will either attempt to answer the questions, or
see whether there is anyone in the audience who can provide an answer.
Some of our meetings involve presentations by TCS members, showing how to
use some new software or hardware they just purchased.
Some of our meetings involve presentations by Vendors, showing the features
in some of the latest releases from their companies.
Most of our meetings are at night, but we do have a Daytimer's Special
Interest Group, which meets at 10 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each
month, for people who either have difficulty driving at night, or who
work second shift, and the third Saturday of each month is our Super
Saturday, with two meetings about the internet, a general Question
and Answer one, from 10:00 am to noon, followed by a specific subject
related to the internet, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
Regardless of when the meeting takes place, and regardless of its format,
the purpose of all of our meetings is to help people learn more about how
to use their personal computers.
The motto of the Tulsa Computer Society is:
Computer Users Helping Computer Users
Tulsa Computer Society 12/02/98
